AA District 9 Qualifiers:
Jenna Barnoff 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles Kate Horner 100m In the Field: Sam Dyson threw her best discus of the season. Taegan Ludwig was near her best in the javelin. In the Jumps: Sam Dyson (triple jump), Elyse White (long jump), Sophie Wyant (high jump), and Kaitlyn Doverspike (triple jump) each had personal bests in their jumps. On the track: Kate Horner qualified in the 100 and just missed qualifying in the 800 by one tenth of a second. Alyse Whitman narrowly missed qualifying in the 1600 by three seconds. Makena Nesbitt matched her best time in the 100 hurdles. Jenna Barnoff qualified in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles running personal bests in both races. Gabby Franklin ran a personal best in the 3200 winning uncontested. It was nice to see some of the girls have some personal bests and to qualify a few more in their invididual events. Overall though it seemed as if some of the girls were a bit flat so I am hoping that we can bounce back and regain our focus for what is ahead of us. There is some strong competition in our district and it is going to take continued efforts over the next several weeks in order to keep some of our relays and individuals in the running for those top slots. Punxsy next travels to Redbank to compete on Friday. Complete Results: 4x800 relay: ECC 10:32.7 100 hurdles: 1. Newton (ECC) 17.0; 2. Nesbitt (P) 17.6; 3. **17 teams competing. 14 of which were AA District 9 Teams.
**Tied for 6th place overall, 5th out of the AA Teams. **Awards to 3 individuals and 2 relays (given to top 6 in each event) With so many teams from our district turning out for the meet, it sort of turned into a pre-district meet. The competition was pretty challenging across the events, but it is nice to see where we stand with a month to go before the district meet. There are definitely some areas that we need to continue to work on over the next few meets but I feel confident these girls are ready for the challenge. The 4x800 Relay Team of Kate, Elyse, Bailey and Alyse started things off well by running their second fastest time of the season while finishing 2nd to the top ranked team in the district in Northern Potter. Each one of these girls ran great races with several of them finding seasonal best splits. They are all really competitive when it comes to this relay and I look forward to seeing what they do in the next few weeks. Kate Horner: placed 2rd in 4x800, 2nd in 400m, 5th in 4x400 Kate came back from the relay to run a strong open 400 placing 2nd overall and first out of the district. Alyse Whitman: placed 2nd in 4x800, 4th in 800m, 5th in 4x400 Alyse ran a very solid time in the open 800 following the relay placing only behind a tight pack of three seniors. Bailey Jones: 2nd in 4x800, 8th in 800m, 5th in 4x400 **Met the AA District 9 Qualifying Standard in the 800 Bailey had a fantastic day in all three of her races. She equaled her split from the relay in the open race meeting the qualifying standard for the district meet in the 800. The 4x400 Relay Team of Kate, Elyse, Bailey and Alyse again ran another second best time of the season finishing 5th overall. Bailey had a personal best split. Sam Dyson **Received the Outstanding Female in the Field Athlete Award Sam had her best throw ever in the shot put and wasn’t too far off her best in the discus. Two of her throws in the shot that she fouled were actually with in inches of the school record. Winning both of these events was definitely a big accomplishment against the strong field of throwers the district has. Jenna Barnoff (300 hurdles), Gabby Franklin (1600m), Hayley Dilts (3200m), Shawnelle Miller (Discus) and Midori Bridges (Triple Jump) each had seasonal bests in their events. With districts now only 4 weeks away we are going to continue to make the push to get more girls qualified. Everyone is working extremely hard to solidify their spots in their events. Punxsy Girls travel to Saint Marys to compete against Elk County Catholic on Tuesday. Coming off a win against St. Mary’s a week ago we knew it would take some great efforts to compete with a very talented and well-coached team like Dubois. We definitely do not have the depth like Dubois; however, our girls’ focus was on improvements and with that came some solid performances. Across the board we saw great performances from the girls. I can’t say enough about how hard these girls competed tonight.
AA District 9 Qualifiers: Alyse Whitman 400m Makena Nesbitt 300m hurdles Kate Horner 200m In the Field: Sam Dyson had personal best marks in the shot put as well as the triple jump. She is an extremely strong competitor. Taegan Ludwig also had a personal best throw in the shot put. Its great to see the progression these girls are having so far this season. In the Jumps: Midori Bridges and Cassidy Reed have been super consistent with their marks and I know better things are coming from these girls soon. On the track: Kate Horner ran personal bests in three of her four races. She raced very well moving down to the 100 and 200. She is definitely building some strength to help out in the relays and her 400. Alyse Whitman ran three great races tonight. She split a 2:31 in the 4x800 relay and came back with two impressive 400’s in the open and 4x400 relay. Makena Nesbitt did a fantastic job in the hurdles. She won both hurdle races against some talented hurdles from Dubois. Jenna Barnoff just missed scoring in both hurdle races placing 4th in each but really impressed me with how much improvement she has been making. Alexis Vite really helped out the scoring with her two second places in the 1600 and 3200. Hayley Dilts ran very competitively out there just missing scoring but earning two close 4th place finishes in the 1600 and 3200. 4x800—Each girl ran a seasonal best and improved their overall time by 21 seconds. 4x400—The girls ran their fastest time by 6 seconds. Even though we lost a close one to Dubois, I knew a team like Dubois would push the girls to their best. Punxsy next competes at the Kane Invitational on Saturday where the girls will match up against the rest of the AA District 9 teams. We knew going into tonight it was going to be an extremely close meet and it definitely worked out that way. We talked with the girls before the meet about how strong St. Marys is on the track and we were going to have to take every opportunity that we could to score points. We were extremely pleased with how hard everyone worked and the outcome lies solely on the efforts of each of these girls. Last year St. Marys was able to outscore us by 17 points, it was nice to see us get a win against a strong team in St. Marys. In the Field: Sam Dyson had some excellent throws tonight. Her shot and discus were actually her best ever outdoors and if done at our district meet would have been automatic qualifiers for the state meet. She even tied for second in the 100 meter dash. She is an all around athlete. Shawnelle Miller was just shy of her personal best mark in the discus. Alexis McKee and Taegan Ludwig also had personal bests in the shot put as well. In the Jumps: Midori Bridges, Cassidy Reed and Kaitlyn Doverspike had some nice jumps in their events really helping score some needed points. On the track: Kate Horner keeps getting stronger in her events. She is the top runner in the 400 in the district and it shows in each race she runs. Alyse Whitman ran three great races tonight. Her strengths in the middle distance races continue to impress me. Bailey Jones nearly qualified for districts in the 1600 in her first attempt running the event. She is doing a fantastic job at pushing herself in each race she runs. Elyse White ran a personal best in the 400 by 1.6 seconds. She is really becoming more confident in her abilities. Makena Nesbitt had a very nice all around day placing in the top three in each of her events. She had a personal best in the pole vault, while also qualifying for districts in the 100 hurdles. I can’t say enough about her work ethic. She is always willing to do whatever it takes to better herself. Jenna Barnoff ran a great 300m hurdle race and did a fine job in the javelin. These dual meets are really helping the girls gain some confidence in their abilities and giving them an opportunity to better their marks and times. We are going to keep working at adding more district qualfiers to the list with many girls nearing the standards in their events. Punxsy next sends its 9th and 10th grade girls Thursday to compete at the Indiana 9/10 Meet, while the rest of the team is back in action on Tuesday at home against Dubois. Punxsy Results:

For a young hurdler to have the composure she had in her races was awesome to see. She definitely gained some good experience in the pole vault as well. She is really impressing the coaches with her drive to do her best. Kate Horner: placed 3rd in 4x800, 5th in 400m, 5th in 4x400 Kate has been battling a cold this week, so for her to do as well as she did we were quite pleased. Alyse Whitman: placed 3rd in 4x800, 5th in 800m, 5th in 4x400 **Met the AA District 9 Qualifying Standard in the 800 Alyse is a true leader on the track. She is one I can count on for several outstanding performances each meet. She is already ahead of where she was performing last year at this time. Elyse White: 3rd in 4x800, 14th in 400m, 5th in 4x400 Elyse had a fantastic day improving her times in both relays as well as the open 400m. She really stepped up into the lead leg of the 4x800 and produced an excellent time. Bailey Jones: 3rd in 4x800, 10th in 800m, 5th in 4x400 Bailey really impressed me again today with coming back after running a great relay split to race quite well in the open 800m. Jenna Barnoff: 10th in 100m hurdles, 7th in 300m hurdles Taegan Ludwig: 8th in Javelin Midori Bridges: 7th in High Jump, 9th in Long Jump, 11th in Triple Jump Jenna, Taegan and Midori really had some excellent performances today. Each of them are closing in on AA District 9 Quailifying marks and just narrowly missed awards in their respective events. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the performances that the girls produced today. It was nice to see so much improvement in just one week since our first meet. Completed Results

I think overall we had some great performances. Right now we are really trying to put in the work with our focus on using these Tuesday dual meets to really build the strength it is going to take to have some top performances by districts. In the Field: I was extremely impressed with the girls sweeping the shot put. We actually took the first five places. Sam Dyson, Taegan Ludwig, Alexis McKee, Shawnelle Miller and Kristin Lowmaster really did a great job out there. In the Javelin along with Sam Dyson, Jenna Barnoff and Taegan Ludwig had some really nice throws. Taegan is really learning from these veteran girls and proving herself quite well. In the Jumps: Midori, Cassidy and Sam did a good job of breaking up a strong group of jumpers in Brookville. These girls are very competitive and I know they will do what it takes to compete against the best. Moving Midori into the Long Jump and Sam into the Triple Jump was nice to see them come in with confidence and just trust in their abilities. On the track: Kate Horner, Alyse Whitman, Makena Nesbitt, and Jenna Barnoff led the way with some great performances. Kate qualified for the district meet in the 400m and just missed qualifying in the 200m, while Whitman, Nesbitt and Barnoff were just shy of their district qualifying standards in their respective events. I was extremely pleased with where they are at this point in the season. Kate looked really strong in the 400 for this early in the season. Alyse ran ahead of the field with ease in the 800. Makena and Jenna really attacked the hurdles(100m and 300m) and came away with some really nice times. Bailey Jones, Elyse White, Alexis Vite, Hayley Dilts and Gabby Franklin all turned in very good races as well and really helped in the scoring tonight. Bailey has gotten much stronger in one year and impresses me with how she is approaching each of her races. Overall I was extremely pleased with all of the team’s efforts tonight. It would have been great to come away with a win; however, ultimately our main goal is to get as many girls to qualify in various events for the district meet. With the things the coaches and I are seeing in practice; everyone working together, getting stronger and learning their events better it is just going to take some time before all the pieces fall together. It was nice to come into a meet without too much pressure where we can move some girls around to build their strengths and still see some great outcomes. We are really looking forward to the progress that these girls are going to make over the next several weeks. I feel like we are at a great starting point. 4th Annual Knoch Relays
Misty, Cool day but the girls handled the conditions quite well Team earned ribbons in 8 out of the 17 total events Top 6 teams earned ribbons On the track 4 members make up a relay In the field a team is made up of 3 members ** Met the AA District 9 Qualifying Standards** 4x800 Relay-Alyse Whitman, Elyse White, Kate Horner, Bailey Jones Sam Dyson in the Shot and Discus *Girls placed only one point behind AA District 9 2016 Champion Moniteau Early season meet to compete in multiple events, some of which typically aren’t offered at the traditional invitational or dual meet. Unique opportunity for the girls to work together in each event and their success was dependent upon each relay member’s performance. Great chance for us to allow all girls to compete since Knoch allowed for B teams for each of the track and field events. The coaches were all pleased with what we saw from the girls. The girls came in with some good attitudes and worked hard in their events. A few events that really stood out: Midori and Cassidy both looked extremely smooth in the high jump. These two girls really have a talent in the high jump where I am hoping they continue to push each other to their best. 4x800 I was really impressed with how they are beginning the season. There is definitely a lot of potential in this event with the girls that we have. Alyse had the top split from the group, while Kate, Elyse and Bailey each ran very solid legs as well. 4x400 Only 1 second off of the District 9 AA Qualifying time. Similar to the 4x800 I am pleased with their starting point for the season. It is nice to have some depth for both of these relays so we can move some girls around a bit and see who can help out the best. Kate had the fastest leg of the relay, while Alyse was only tenths behind her split and Elyse, Makena and Bailey(B Team) also ran some nice splits. Sam Had two good throws today in the shot and discus. She is very driven to be the best each meet. It is nice to have a leader in the field like Sam. The lady chucks will travel Brookville Tuesday. |
